The GPS Discovery Factory is envisioned as an open, non-profit research community dedicated to expanding the space of problems and solutions:

Open to Everyone

The factory is open to researchers, students, developers, practitioners, educators, and anyone interested in exploring new problems and solutions.

The goal is to create an environment in which ideas can be proposed, discussed, tested, and improved regardless of institutional affiliation or disciplinary background. By lowering the barriers to participation, the factory can bring together diverse perspectives and expertise that may lead to problems and solutions that would otherwise remain undiscovered.

Help Generate New Problems and Solutions

The factory seeks to move beyond the conventional paradigm in which problems are defined in advance and AI is used primarily to find solutions.

A central mission of the factory is to help participants discover, formulate, and generate new problems, and then develop solutions to those problems. This follows the fundamental GPS cycle:

Generate Problems → Solve Problems → Learn from Solutions → Generate New Problems

The objective is not simply to solve more problems, but to expand the problem space and, consequently, the solution space. A problem that has never been formulated cannot be solved; systematic exploration of the problem space can therefore reveal new problems, opportunities, and solution directions.

Help Distribute and Substantiate Solutions

Generating a solution is only the beginning. For a solution to become meaningful, it must be shared, examined, reproduced, evaluated, and substantiated.

The factory can provide an open platform through which proposed solutions can be realized and distributed, while encouraging others to test their validity, identify limitations, reproduce results, and build upon them.

In this sense, the factory serves not only as a generator of problems and solutions, but also as a community-based mechanism for validating and advancing knowledge. Solutions that withstand examination can become building blocks for subsequent problem generation and problem solving, creating a continuous cycle of discovery and learning.

Non-Profit

The factory is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help its members generate value—and, when possible, profits—from the problems and solutions they develop.

The factory itself does not operate primarily for profit. Instead, it provides an open environment, resources, collaboration opportunities, and mechanisms for generating, sharing, evaluating, and substantiating new problems and solutions. Members may pursue appropriate commercial or other value-generating opportunities arising from their work.

An open, non-profit structure supports the broader mission of making generated problems, solutions, methodologies, and knowledge accessible to society whenever appropriate, while still enabling members to benefit from the value they create.

The Vision

Together, these principles define Discovery Factory as more than a conventional research laboratory. It is intended to be an open ecosystem for problem discovery, problem generation, solution development, and validation.

The ultimate vision is to create a continuously expanding community-driven cycle:

People → Generate Problems → Solve → Substantiate → Share → Learn → Generate New Problems

In this model, the value of a solution is not the end of the process. Each validated solution becomes a source of knowledge that can help generate new problems, new opportunities, and new solutions.
