Dream,  Discovery, and Invention Factories

The AIxNEXT Dream, Discovery, and Invention Factories envision an open, non-profit community dedicated to expanding the space of dreams, problems, discoveries, and solutions.

The factories invite people from all backgrounds to imagine new possibilities, explore questions that have not yet been asked, generate new problems, develop solutions, and contribute to a continuously expanding body of knowledge.

Open to Everyone

The three factories are open to researchers, students, developers, practitioners, educators, and anyone interested in exploring new possibilities and creating value through imagination, discovery and invention. The goal is to create an environment in which dreams, ideas, questions, problems, and solutions can be proposed, discussed, explored, tested, and improved regardless of institutional affiliation or disciplinary background.

By lowering barriers to participation, the factories bring together diverse perspectives, experiences, and expertise. Such collaboration can reveal problems and opportunities that might otherwise remain undiscovered and enable participants to pursue possibilities beyond the limits of conventional thinking.

Dream Factory: Imagine What Could Be

The Dream Factory is a place where people express, share, and explore their dreams, visions, and aspirations for the future. A dream may involve discovering something new, inventing a technology, solving a societal challenge, improving everyday life, creating a new business, or imagining possibilities that do not yet exist.

Members are encouraged to express their dreams freely without needing to define a technical problem, demonstrate feasibility, or propose a solution in advance. A dream does not have to be immediately practical or achievable. Its value may lie in opening a new direction for exploration.

Through dialogue, collaboration, and the use of AI and other tools, members can examine their dreams, identify opportunities, formulate questions, and explore what might be possible. The Dream Factory encourages a culture in which imagination is not merely an expression of personal aspiration, but a starting point for exploration, problem generation, and discovery.

Dream → Imagine → Question → Explore → Generate Problems → Create

Every dream can be a starting point. What seems difficult or impossible today may inspire a problem worth exploring, a discovery worth pursuing, or a solution that changes the future.

Discovery Factory: Generate Problems

The Discovery Factory provides an open environment for discovering, formulating, and generating new problems, and advancing knowledge.

Conventional problem solving often begins with a predefined problem and seeks the best available answer. The Discovery Factory seeks to go beyond this paradigm. Its mission is not only to solve known problems, but also to expand the space of problems that can be explored and the space of solutions that can be developed.

This mission is closely aligned with Generative Problem Solving (GPS), which combines generative AI with classical AI, computing, algorithms, and other techniques to support the generation and solution of problems, with an emphasis on accuracy, reliability, and verifiability.

The fundamental GPS cycle is:

Generate Problems → Solve Problems → Learn from Solutions → Generate New Problems

This cycle makes problem generation an ongoing activity rather than a one-time step before solving. Each solution can reveal limitations, raise new questions, expose unexplored possibilities, or suggest entirely new problems. The objective is not simply to solve more problems, but to continuously expand the problem space and, consequently, the solution space. Systematic exploration of previously unformulated problems can reveal new opportunities for discovery, innovation, and value creation.

Invention Factory: Substantiate and Share Solutions

Generating a promising idea or discovery is only the beginning. To contribute meaningfully to knowledge and society, a solution may need to be implemented, examined, tested, reproduced, evaluated, and substantiated.

The Invention Factory encourage members to share their work and invite others to examine its validity, identify limitations, reproduce results, and build upon previous contributions. AI-generated outputs and proposed solutions should not automatically be treated as established knowledge. Depending on the nature of the work, substantiation may involve theoretical reasoning, mathematical proof, empirical testing, experimental replication, formal verification, or other appropriate evaluation methods.

The Invention Factory aim to provide an open environment in which ideas and solutions can be improved through collaboration and critical examination. Substantiated solutions can become building blocks for subsequent discoveries. By making knowledge available for further exploration, members help create a cumulative process in which each contribution can support new questions, new problems, and new solutions.

From Dreams to Discoveries and Inventions

The three factories are complementary components of a continuous process of exploration and creation. The Dream Factory provides an entry point for imagination and aspiration. The Discovery Factory provides a framework for turning those aspirations—and questions arising from other sources—into problems. The Invention Factory provides a framework to turn discoveries into solutions, and to substantiate them.

A possible journey is:

Dream → Imagine → Question → Generate Problems → Develop Solutions → Substantiate → Share → Learn → Dream Again

A Non-Profit, Value-Creating Community

The three factories are envisioned as a non-profit initiative that supports its members in generating intellectual, scientific, societal, and economic value. The factories themselves are not primarily organized to maximize profit. Instead, they seek to provide an open environment for imagination, collaboration, problem generation, solution development, validation, and knowledge sharing.

Members may pursue appropriate commercial or other value-generating opportunities arising from their work, including technologies, products, services, research outcomes, and new ventures. An open, non-profit structure can help advance the broader mission of making problems, solutions, methodologies, and knowledge accessible to society whenever appropriate, while enabling members to benefit from the value they create. The factories encourage responsible collaboration, appropriate recognition of contributions, and the sharing of knowledge in ways that support both individual achievement and the broader public good.

The Vision: A Continuously Expanding Space of Dreams, Problems, and Solutions

The three factories are intended to be more than conventional research laboratories or platforms for finding answers. They represent an open, community-driven ecosystem for imagining possibilities, generating problems, developing solutions, substantiating discoveries, and creating new opportunities.

Their vision can be summarized in a continuous cycle:

People → Dream → Generate Problems → Solve → Substantiate → Share → Learn → Generate New Problems → Dream Again

This cycle is not strictly linear. Dreams can emerge from discoveries, problems can arise from solutions, and new opportunities can appear at any stage. The ultimate goal is to cultivate a culture in which people do not merely use AI to answer predefined questions. Instead, they use AI, human creativity, computing, scientific reasoning, and collaboration to imagine what could be, discover what is not yet known, formulate problems that have not yet been explored, and create solutions that expand what is possible.

Dream beyond what exists. Discover what is unknown. Generate problems worth solving. Create solutions that shape the future. The AIxNEXT factories invite everyone to participate in this ongoing journey.
